StreamDown is a small tool that downloads all kinds of multimedia streams. It reminds me a FTP client, but instead of downloading torrent contents, it downloads streaming media formats. By using this program, you are enabled to download multimedia streams from HTTP and FTP, and also from less popular RTSP, MMS, MMST, MMSU protocols.
The graphical user-interface of StreamDown is not crowded with unnecessary buttons. All the functions that you might need can be accessed from the toolbar. Moreover, you can adjust the size of various panels according to your needs. The streams are efficiently categorized as follows: downloading, downloaded, or deleted.
An interesting feature of StreamDown is called MSniffer. It was created to automatically detect streaming URLs from various webpages. It should be mentioned, though, that it only detects URLs from pages that were opened after running it.
StreamDown doesn't come with many settings. You are allowed to set the destination folder where the downloads will be saved, and also the maximum number of simultaneous downloads.
Personally, I don’t find applications of this type very useful. But some users will appreciate it for its downloading capabilities.
